After a successful production of NEWSIES at Actors Cabaret, The Non-Stop Players will next be performing SHE LOVES ME, a musical many consider to be one of the most charming shows ever written. It’s a perfect fit for the intimate Actors Cabaret stage!
“We looked at the show dates, and decided that SHE LOVES ME was perfect for that time of year, right after Christmas and just before Valentine’s Day,” said Non-Stop Players Artistic Director Karen Olsen. “SHE LOVES ME is filled with romance and comedy, yet there’s a sense of wistfulness that suits the season. It’s always been on the short list of shows we’ve wanted to produce, and when everything fell into place, we knew we had to bring SHE LOVES ME to the stage.”
Based on the 1937 play PARFUMERIE, SHE LOVES ME is the tale of two single co-workers who are rivals during the day, without realizing that they are each other’s secret romantic pen pals in a Lonely Hearts Club! If the story sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same plot as the 1940 film, THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER, starring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan, and YOU’VE GOT MAIL, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan!
The music for SHE LOVES ME was written by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, (FIDDLER ON THE ROOF), with a book penned by Joe Masterhoff (CABARET). SHE LOVES ME is a gem of a show, a Broadway classic, with endearing characters, beautiful songs, and a heartwarming story that stays with you long after the final curtain call.
